**POSTPONED** – FRIENDS SPRINGTIME BRUNCH

May 20, 2020 @ 11:30 am - 2:00 pm

APRIL 5: This will not be happening on May 20th. We will update when we have a new date for the event.
In the spirit of celebrating First Nations’ people, the Friends welcome you to the world of the Anishinaabe of the Great Lakes at our Spring Brunch. Find out more about the strong cultural heritage of the Chippewa (Ojibwe), Ottawa, and Potawatomi Tribes, Michigan’s major tribal groups. Patricia Shackleton, a member of the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of the Chippewa Indians, will guide us on a tour of the positive aspects of the Native culture, including the arts and storytelling. Patricia will also address more modern issues the Tribes confront, including the abduction of Native American children, the role of Indian Boarding Schools in suppressing cultural heritage, and the impact of official governmental policies.
The cost is $15 for Friends members and $18 for non-members. Space is limited so please make your reservations early, either by mail or at the library. Checks may be made out to Friends of the Okemos Library and mailed to Friends of the Okemos Library, 4321 Okemos Road, Okemos, MI 48864, or they may be dropped off at the library. Call  Cecelia Kramer at 349-3297 with any questions, or contact the library at 347-2021, ext. 3. Reservations are required by May 15.
